“Wow, what a party!”

That was the exclamation from a surprised Tigard Mom who arrived at Town Center Park with her family for a “relaxed” birthday party by the cooling water feature on an extremely hot August 1st.

By happenstance, their celebration with friends and family coincided with the 9th edition of Fun in the Park, Wilsonville’s signature summer free fun extravaganza. They shared the park with a few thousand other “friends and family” enjoying over 130 venues of fun assembled with the help of 600+ volunteers and 20 generous sponsors.

Like the Tigard family, about half of those enjoying FITP came from communities beyond Wilsonville who had already learned that Wilsonville does know how to put on a party!

Surveys of smiling attendees continue to champion the efforts of the dedicated organizing committee.

“You folks have it (fun) covered.”

“It’s awesome!”

“What a fabulous event.”

For seven hours Town Center Park was a kid’s paradise (besides a birthday celebration site).

The menu included myriad games testing skill and luck, action-oriented inflatables and amusements, creative crafts, face painting, tattoos, exotic birds and reptiles, Roving Revelers (jugglers, clowns, magician, mime, mascots, etc.) stage bands, carnival, dancers, martial arts, Radio Disney entertainers, as well as popular food and product vendors. “We’re always bushed when it’s over,” smiled festival President Becky Nichols, “but the tremendous sense of satisfaction brings us back to the table to start planning for next year’s festival.”

Nichols and fellow organizers have already reviewed this highly anticipated “first Saturday of August” event to tweak procedures in preparation for next year.

“Mark you calendars for 2010,” encouraged Nichols. With the continued support of clubs, businesses, practices, organizations, and churches, Fun in the Park will celebrate its tenth anniversary on Saturday, August 7th.
